PokerStars and BetStars today announced the launch of their respective online and mobile poker, sports betting and casino products in the newly regulated Swedish market on January 1, 2019. The launch follows receipt of a licence from Sweden's gambling regulator Lotteriinspektionen in December 2018.

PokerStars has offered sports betting before this, but on PokerStars sub-domain sites. The new sites can be found on the domains BetStars.com, BetStars.eu, and BetStars.uk. BetStars launches with nearly 30 sports available for wagering, including favorites such as football, soccer, and basketball, as well as the growing e-sports category.

PokerStars has expanded its sports betting offering with the launch of BetStars.fr, an Amaya Inc. brand. The beta version is now available to French sports bettors online at BetStars.fr, on iOS and Android mobile devices, and in the PokerStars.fr desktop client. The current beta version of BetStars.fr offers seven popular sports for customers.

BetStars will initially be available in select jurisdictions on the domains Betstars.com, Betstars.eu, and Betstars.uk, and on dedicated iOS and Android applications. This is the next stage of development of PokerStars’ new sportsbook offering, which will continue to be rolled out during 2016.
